At home in Dortmund, on the road for you in Germany

SHA on PHOENIX West

We love Dortmund and the Ruhr region. We built the PhoenixWERK on the PHOENIX West site with full conviction. The smelting works used to smoke here.

In the Hörde district, where one of the largest innovation locations in the Ruhr region is now located. In a fantastic working environment with a view of the old blast furnace. From here, we plan buildings for you throughout Germany.

The old steel production and processing site, where the first blast furnace tapping in the Dortmund area took place in 1854, has become a pioneering urban development project. “PHOENIX – A new urban landscape in Dortmund” even won the German Urban Development Award in 2018. The triad of PHOENIX West, Hörde-Zentrum and Phoenix See can therefore be seen as an outstanding project of structural change.

The history: After the final closure of the blast furnace plants in 2001, they were partially dismantled, dismantled, shipped and rebuilt in China. At the same time, the 96-hectare Phoenix Lake was created on the eastern part of the site as the center of a new residential and recreational area. This is where the people of Dortmund bustle today and enjoy the wide range of stores, service providers and restaurants.

In addition to the historic brick halls, the blast furnaces 5 and 6 remain as central structural elements on the western site. Today, they are an impressive testimony to North Rhine-Westphalia’s heavy and coal and steel industry. An attractive technology and service location has emerged here – with SHA right in the middle.

Together with Remira, we acquired the central plot between the old industrial monuments Phoenixhalle, Schalthaus and blast furnace at Phoenixplatz at the beginning of 2018. The PhoenixWERK stands at the intersection of these historic buildings. Two years later, in April 2020, the time had come: the two SHA locations in Dortmund – the previous headquarters in Aplerbeck and the office in the former chocolate factory – have now been brought together on historic ground in PhoenixWERK.

With the brick façade, we pick up on the character of the existing halls and continue the history in a contemporary way. The rapid development of SHA – after all, the size of our office has quintupled within ten years – is reflected in our own building.
