Sports facility construction: real love
Borussia Dortmund training center
When the new training center was opened in 2005 with the then amateur and professional buildings and the first pitches, it was not foreseeable that this would only be the beginning of a fantastic collaboration: Borussia Dortmund had just survived the most dramatic economic phase in the club’s history when we erected another building – this time for the professionals only – for Borussia Dortmund as the user and DSW 21 as the client in the second construction phase.
No sooner had this building been completed than Jürgen Klopp and his young team won the German championship. Legend has it that he wanted the club to build the so-called Footbonauten with the hall we built. At the same time, the club strengthened its commitment to youth development and built the youth training center with a total of 22 rooms for players between the ages of 14 and 17 according to our plans.
BRIEFLY ASKED… Marcel Schlegel
Buildings for the Bundesliga: What is special about this task?
Working with BVB is really great. However, we do not distinguish whether our client is a World Cup winner or not. Our clients work with us because we understand their specific requirements, transform them into functional contexts and then realize them on time and on budget. It’s simply about professional work.
Nevertheless, the office obviously has specialized knowledge in sports facility construction.
Yes, that is correct. We are convinced that we can advise our clients particularly well with our special know-how in sports facility construction.
Please explain briefly: What is a footbonaut?
It’s a kind of PlayStation with a touch of reality: large ball machines are used to get convalescent players back into training. At the same time, the athletes can train their speed of action and passing accuracy. By the way: the inventor of the footbonaut is Christian Güttler, son of the trumpet virtuoso Ludwig Güttler, who initiated the reconstruction of the Dresden Frauenkirche.
