Ground-breaking ceremony in Recklinghausen - start of construction work on the new Thyssengas operating center
There was reason to celebrate at yesterday’s ground-breaking ceremony for the new Thyssengas GmbH operations center in Recklinghausen. Together with the client and representatives from the press and politics, we officially heralded the start of construction work on the new operating center.
Around 1,500 kilometers of the Thyssengas pipeline network are currently controlled, monitored and maintained from the Recklinghausen site. In future, the operations center will also be responsible for Thyssengas’ hydrogen network in the region. The new building creates the right conditions for this.
The new branch is being built on the approximately 7,500 m² site on Sibylla-Merian-Strasse in Recklinghausen. From this location, around 50 employees will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Thyssengas pipeline network and thus for the secure supply of gas to the region. One of the central pieces of the puzzle of the planned hydrogen core network also falls within its area of responsibility: the first cross-border hydrogen pipeline from Kalle in North Rhine-Westphalia to Vlieghuis in the Netherlands.
In his welcoming address, Dr. Gößmann, Chairman of the Management Board of Thyssengas, also emphasized the special relationship between Thyssengas and the Ruhr region: “Thyssengas is on the way to a new chapter in the company’s more than one hundred year history. Hydrogen and other green gases will shape the future. Our mission is clear: we are shaping the energy transition and, with our networks, will enable a future energy supply without fossil fuels for the industrial location of North Rhine-Westphalia and beyond. As a child of the Ruhr region, the secure supply of gas to the region was, is and will remain part of our identity – which is why we are building a new and larger operating site here in Recklinghausen.”
“I am delighted that a successful company like Thyssengas is making a visible and proactive commitment to Recklinghausen as a business location,” says Mayor Christoph Tesche. “The expansion of the pipeline network and the creation of new jobs create ideal conditions for growth and success. The new location will open up new technologies in the field of energy supply.”
The new office is scheduled to be occupied in the first half of next year. In addition to modern workplaces and extensive technical equipment for the organization of network operations, the topic of sustainability is high on the list of priorities. Plans include an ice store for heating and cooling, a PV system for generating electricity and extensive greenery on the roof, façade and exterior surfaces. A lightweight and resource-saving timber construction is used on the upper floor, which is also visible from the outside thanks to a rear-ventilated timber façade. The office achieves the Gold Standard of the DGNB certification for sustainable building.
The new Thyssengas-owned operating site, which replaces the space currently rented on Blitzkuhlenstrasse, is therefore also a lasting commitment by the company to the Recklinghausen site.
