The listed Hoeschpark, a popular park landscape in Dortmund’s Nordstadt district, offers a wide range of different sports facilities for club and leisure sports. The aim is to safeguard the existing high-quality park sequences in the long term and to initiate careful further development of the range of uses. This creates characteristic places with attractive activities and places to linger, also for new visitor and user groups.
The “new, old” park can accommodate a high user frequency in the central areas thanks to the new elements – such as the red loop, the park axis and the park terrace – as well as the existing sports areas. In other areas, natural, protected areas are being created: Places for quiet, contemplative relaxation.
In the existing buildings, there will be additional changing areas for the athletes as well as multifunctional event areas and training and seminar rooms for club work and the general public.
The structural interventions are carried out with appropriate restraint, but are clearly legible as contemporary layering. They serve to clearly define the address, provide public access to the respective upper floors and visually open up the buildings to strengthen their presence and control function within Hoeschpark.
The uniform, reduced materiality of the new architectural elements made of wood and steel unites the local steel industry era with the natural space of the park and the Hoeschpark woodland “Brügmanns Hölzchen”.
Emblematic elements and uniform materials can be easily transferred to other measures as the architectural signet of the new Hoeschpark.
