hagebau Logistik: Ground-breaking ceremony for new warehouses

Reconstruction after fire in Herten

More than a year has passed since the major fire at the hagebau logistics site in the Herten-Süd industrial estate. Large warehouses burned down at the time; the entire extinguishing work took four days. After months of clearing work and new planning by SHA Scheffler Helbich Architekten GmbH, the reconstruction of three halls can now begin. The symbolic ground-breaking ceremony took place this week.

“After the fire, a quick redesign was important,” says Christoph Helbich, Managing Partner of SHA. Our architectural office is now acting as the fire restoration company and has optimized everything logistically once again; there are now three fire compartments. The new warehouses cover an area of 13,500 square meters. That’s more than before. The halls in Herten are used, among other things, for the storage of building materials.

Brüninghoff is the general contractor responsible for the new building. The earthworks will start immediately and empty conduits for the electricity and fire water pipes will be laid. Then the foundations are poured. The three-bay warehouse will then be built using reinforced concrete skeleton construction. Then the roof work and the wall cladding begin. The goal: completion in late fall. However, the hagebau workforce in Herten can already return to work with a lower workload.

The building materials warehouse in Herten is one of five logistics locations of the hagebau Group. The delivery points in Germany, Austria and Luxembourg are served from here and the flow of goods is controlled centrally. This ensures high product availability and short delivery times.
