Impressive sign against violence against women

The PhoenixWERK lights up for "Orange your City"

A rich orange hue lay over the city yesterday evening. The “Orange your City” or “Orange the World” campaign with many atmospherically illuminated buildings in Dortmund and around the world has a serious background: the initiative is intended to set an example against psychological and physical violence against women. Around 50 Dortmund companies had agreed to contribute to the carpet of color. The PhoenixWERK also shone in the symbolic color on the “Day against Violence against Women”.

The background to “Orange your City”

The Zonta Clubs in Dortmund under the patronage of Lord Mayor Thomas Westphal are taking part in Zonta International’s worldwide campaign with over 130 Zonta Clubs throughout Germany. This year, the global network of committed professional women is once again supporting the United Nations’ joint efforts to end violence against women and girls.

The coronavirus pandemic has drastically worsened the situation for women and young girls worldwide due to existential fears, confined spaces and isolation. The gleaming buildings are intended to convey the urgent message that no one should look away. And they should encourage those affected and encourage them to exercise their rights, defend themselves and seek help. Let the pictures do the talking – take a look at the galleries.
