Lensing Media Port: This is planned

Conversion and extension of a former warehouse building

Something is happening in Dortmund’s port: the former warehouse building at Speicherstrasse 2 will soon become the “Lensing Media Port”. The demolition of an old two-storey extension began last week. The building application for the actual conversion has been submitted and planning permission from the City of Dortmund is expected in the fall.

The new utilization concept for the Lensing Media Port as a “start-up and knowledge quarter” envisages service and education-related sectors and facilities – and an opening up of the area to neighbouring residential areas and the general public. The ramps on the north and south sides and the façade of the building will remain. This is a permanent reminder of the building’s history as a warehouse.

The building is being extended by one storey and a new main staircase is being built on the south side.

There will be a glass extension on the east side; there will also be a large open staircase here, which will provide seating in the public space and ensure a lively atmosphere. The immediate proximity to the water invites you to take a stroll.

Once completed, office and conference rooms, digital agencies, restaurants and much more will fill the old warehouse building in Dortmund’s port with new life on around 7,600 m² of usable space. Speicherstrasse will thus become a new digital, creative and urban district that thrives on exchange and collaboration.

The Lensing Media Port will be a central building block in the redesigned district, where much is currently undergoing change. It is one of the so-called Smart Urban Areas and is part of the “northwards” initiative, which aims to focus on the strengths of Dortmund’s northern districts.
