Education campus construction in Geradstetten
Competition entry in collaboration with Gina Barcelona Architects
Parallel modular pavilions form the basic idea of the educational campus in Geradstetten, which will be used for vocational training in the fields of building construction, civil engineering and road construction. In addition to workshops, classrooms and seminar rooms, our design also includes a dormitory that trainees can use during their stay.
Along the adjoining road to the north, the linear structures are offset and aligned with the existing buildings. In addition to the row of pavilions, the dormitory is planned on the western side, which will form a striking address due to its higher storeys. The building façades have a different appearance depending on their orientation: facing the street, the building design has a representative and closed façade. The open façade gives the south-facing open space an industrial character and provides access for machines, delivery traffic for the supply of materials and the transportation of tests and prototypes.
The base of the campus consists of low-maintenance, heavy-duty exposed concrete elements. The large hall areas will be covered by a roof supported by glulam trusses, the height of which is adapted to the respective purpose and space requirements. A light strip incorporated into the shape of the roof facing north-west is intended to ensure sufficient lighting and natural ventilation, while the south-east side of the roof is used for the installation of PV modules. In addition, the roof surfaces of the smaller service areas will be equipped with intensive green roofs.
In addition to the construction of a green roof and the generation of renewable energies, the modular construction of our design proposal in particular ensures a high level of climate compatibility, as restructuring and even dismantling work can be carried out easily.
