The design addresses the fundamental conflict of objectives of a supermarket “on a greenfield site” by embedding the building in the ground and allowing the landscape to flow over the building.
At the same time, the new market forms the necessary spatial edge to the street, with an effective advertising hoop with the brand logo stretching along the street. The required parking spaces are only located behind it. They are also lowered and are not visible from the landscape.
Ecologically, this supermarket represents a new form of sustainability. Unlike the lightweight metal box, which heats up considerably in summer and cools down quickly in winter, the new supermarket has sufficient surrounding earth masses to compensate for temperature peaks and act as a mass accumulator.
In addition, the use of geothermal energy continues the concept of being connected to the earth and reduces the use of conventional energy to a minimum.
